The Difference Meter

This is our Marker - our way of measuring our progress towards our goal.

I was a trainer before i got into e-learning.  Trainers, educators, teachers, people who share knowledge often have the ability to see the immediate difference they make when they take someone from a positon of "not knowing" to "now I know".  Most of the face to face training workshops I deliver are with less than 25 people.  I often get immediate feedback from people who share how the session has made a difference for them.

When we were developing the first online learning system, TrainingToDo.com we thought about our vision for what this business could accomplish.  The comment was made, wouldn't it be something if we could say we created something that made a difference for a million people.  That's something worth investing time in.  That's something worth persevering through the struggles and challenges that you would encounter along the way.

The Difference Meter was added to our website as a marker.  We see it every day.  It is a powerful reminder that we are making a difference.  There are days where it increases by 100 people and others where it increases by over a thousand.  That is the amazing aspect of online learning technology, there are no limits.  It is not limited by how many people I can handle in a room.  It is not limited by my travel schedule.  And it is not limited by the trainee's ability to be at a specific place at a specific time.  It removes many of the limits on what we can do with education and training.

I hear people talk about changing the world.  And they often think they need to do something huge and dramatic.  And maybe they will.  For me, changing the world starts with changing myself, getting beter and better, learning and growing.
